Klášterní pivovar Strahov (The Strahov Monastic Brewery)

The Strahov Monastic Brewery (Klášterní pivovar Strahov) is located right in the centre of Prague near the Prague Castle and Petřín hill. This microbrewery is one of the oldest in the Czech Republic and it continues the old tradition of brewing in the Strahov Monastery. The first documentation on the Strahov Brewery comes from the end of the 13th century. Later in 1629 there was a new brewery built - it was in operation until 1907. The Strahov Brewery as we know it nowadays was opened in 2001. The Strahov Brewery produces beer under the name St. Norbert. This name was chosen in honor of St. Norbert, the patron of Premonstratensians, whose remains are buried at the Strahov Monastery.

You can try 3 kinds of beer all year round. The first one is top-fermented St. Norbert India Pale Ale. The second one is St. Norbert Amber Lager 13°, and finally the third one is called St. Norbert Dark Lager 14°. These three beers are usually accompanied by other seasonal specials. Occasionally you can try all kinds of wheat beer, Red Ale, Brown Ale and more.

There is a nice restaurant in the Strahov Brewery. Here you can enjoy Czech meals, some of which are prepared with local beer. Moreover you can try even a beer icecream! The restaurant is stylish and situated in more than just one building. You can see the copper brewhouse here and you can enjoy sitting in the brewery courtyard, too.
